Ricky Woodring Memorial Fund

DONATIONS contribute to the following causes, if desired, supporters may designate an area they are most interested in funding.

The Ricky Woodring Memorial "Music" Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a senior student with a dedication and passion for music along with plans to continue that dedication post high school. The recipient is selected by the music instructors and the scholarship committee.

The Ricky Woodring "Heart of Gold" Baseball Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a senior baseball player selected through private ballots by his teammates and coaches for his work ethic and sportsmanship. Our appreciation to the 1999 Galena Varsity Baseball Team in helping to develop this scholarship in memory of their teammate, Ricky.

The Ricky Woodring "Resource" Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a senior student with will rounded achievements, including academics, in spite of a health impairment or a learning disability. Our appreciation to Susan Strandberg and Jacque Matteoni of the special education department in developing this scholarship in 2000.

The Ricky Woodring "Babe Ruth" Scholarship
These funds are used to help pay season fees, cleats, mitts, etc. for families of the players in financial need. It is a confidential scholarship chosen by the Babe Ruth board.

Lights on the Galena baseball field as a tribute to Ricky's life.
Ricky was planning a fundraising concert for the baseball program at the time of his accident. As a pitcher, he loved night games, stating his curve ball dropped out of sight better at night. "Light" was Ricky's first word and we thought it would be a wonderful tribute to Ricky's life to one day help realize his vision and many others have of Galena High School hosting the Northern Nevada Zone Baseball Championship Games which means the field must have lights.
